Two Felician Sisters from Poland had been forced to leave their Monastery due to the wars and unrest in Europe around this time. They sought refuge at our Monastery in Troyes and soon sought to enter the Monastery. Mother Marie Ste. Claire recognized in one of them, Sr. Mary of the Cross, the marks of a deeply spiritual leader after her own heart. She formed her in the spirit of our Order and knew that one day she would have an important part to play in its growth. The dream that lay hidden in Sr. Mary of the Cross' heart-to return one day to her native homeland-became reality when she was sent to establish a Monastery in Poland. They ended up going to Austria due to the conditions of the times. After the death of Mother Marie Ste. Claire, Mother Mary of the Cross carried on the spirit of our Founders and under her guidance, our Order soon spread to Germany and Poland.
It was from our Monastery in Vienna, Austria, in 1912 that Mother Mary Agnes Eichler and Mother Mary Cyrilla Zotter set out to erect a Eucharistic throne in the New World of America. Amid many struggles, trials, cultural shocks and difficulties in mastering the language, our two pioneers established their Monastery in Cleveland, Ohio. It was from here that a new foundation was made to yet another distant land--this time India-in 1933. Our Order has since continually multiplied throughout India and Bangladesh.
